In award-winning Baldacci's (Long Shadows) latest installment in "The 6:20 Man" series, ex-Army Ranger Travis Devine is sent to the tight-knit community of Potter, ME, to solve the murder of CIA operative Jenny Silkwell. He must also retrieve her phone and laptop, which Homeland Security fears contain secret information that must not fall into the wrong hands. Potter's inhabitants are protective of their long-held secrets and will not reveal them, especially to Travis, an outsider. The townspeople constantly lie to him, but he manages to learn more about the individuals who may be involved: Earl, who allegedly discovered Jenny's body on the rocks below the cliff, could not have seen the body because of an old neck injury that impairs his ability to look down; Jenny's sister Alex cannot move on with her life, as she is traumatized by a sexual assault from years earlier. Narrator Erin Cottrell's excellent pacing enhances listeners' excitement and ramps up the tension as Travis's investigation intensifies. VERDICT Baldacci's many fans will be pleased with this twisty follow-up to The 6:20 Man.--Ilka Gordon
